The Digital Health Update by Paul Sonnier — June 8, 2016 — #225

Dear Group,

Crowdfunding for digital health wearable tech continues to be scorching hot: London-based startup Vinaya’s emotion-tracking bracelet recently nabbed $100,000 in just 24 hours on Indiegogo and the Pebble 2 smartwatch has landed over $10 million so far on Kickstarter.

A cool new partnership called ‘Surfline Scout‘ was announced by Surfline (a resource for surfers that I use regularly and provides surf/wave conditions and forecasting) and Trace, a device you attach to your surfboard to “Relive those epic sessions with GPS maps, wave count, top speed, calories burned, biggest turn, and much more” (I don’t have one). The Trace device is multisport, and can be used for kite surfing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, standup paddle-boarding (SUP), kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, and downhill mountain biking. According to the promotion information I received, the Surfline Scout Report program “incorporates data collected by qualified surfers who use Trace and incorporates it into the daily surf report. Now, surfers will know who the Surfline Scout is at each break every day, how many waves they caught, how long their average ride was, their paddle distance, and the exact water temp.”

And at long last, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong’s digital health startup NantHealth has had its initial public offering (IPO)

Chris Edwards, CMO at Validic, my ecosystem partner (contact me for info on how to become one of my partners and support my digital health social entrepreneurship), is speaking at Cannes Lions, the “Festival and Awards for life-changing creativity”. The digital health track there is called “Lions Health Omnicom Health Group MedTech Expo“, and takes place June 18-19 at the Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France. Chris session is titled “Wearing Your Heart (and Brain and Pancreas) on your Sleeve”. Also of note, Validic has published a new, free eBook you can download today: “Exploring Digital Health Technologies: The Devices & Data Being Used in Trials Today
