Dear Group,
In yet another example of ‘what will they think of next’, LG has begun selling a mosquito-repellent TV in India. The TV emits ultrasonic waves that are inaudible to humans but cause mosquitoes to fly away. Since mosquitoes can spread diseases such as malaria, Zika, and dengue, this is a major innovation that I’m sure can also be sold in other types of devices besides TVs.
Breaking a long-standing corporate taboo, Microsoft has partnered with Kind Financial, a provider of legal marijuana sales and commerce tracking for government compliance and maker of A.T.M.-style kiosks that make digital payments possible inside dispensaries. This helps reduce the theft risks due to large amounts of cash that dispensaries are known to have on hand.
Research firm IDC is projecting that shipments of wearable tech devices will top 213 million by the year 2020.
Following last week’s misinformed statements by the head of the AMA, in which he implied all of digital health is ‘snake oil’, one of the most respected names in digital health, Dr. John Halamka, CIO at
Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, penned a response that has received a lot of attention: “Why I Disagree with the Snake Oil Analogy”
